What's with the chassis vents? Is there that much heat generated? I'd like to mount the amp on an enclosed case. Should I include some vents underneath for airflow?

Yes, the airflow is essential.

Both the shunt regulator and the plate load C4S's dissipate a lot of heat. We'll be putting more vents in more chassis as time goes on.
