thanks.  i just ordered the "cheap" weller.   once it arrives, i finally start building my ten tec 1254

Using multiple irons over ~40 years, it is easier to make good solder joints using the irons that regulate the tip temperature. 

Note: I saw a HAKKO with a regulated tip for ~60 dollars and can't find the flier ad to post.
