PJ was asked if a 6N1P could be used instead of a 12AT7 in the Paramount -

Yes, several of the "usual suspects" can be substituted in the Paramount driver circuit. Assuming a 300B version, the 6N1P will need about 5v of bias if you keep the driver and shunt reg currents the same. You can use the unused 431 chip regulator on the PC board to obtain this bias - or just use a 1500 ohm cathode resistor, bypassed.

Just a note - we've built a prototype Paramount using the 5670, and Ed is listening to them this week I think. It works exactly as outlined above, and incorporates the new dual C4S/shunt reg board (the one in the Eros). If it all works out there should eventually be a conversion for existing Paramounts to the new board, which will make it a little easier to use different tubes as drivers. Personally, I'm thinking of the 6SN7 - but them, I've always loved the classics!
