Which pin is "hot" on the balanced output?

The current standard is pin 2 hot. But some old gear - early Ampex and Otari come to mind - used pin 3 hot.

I guess I should have been more specific:

On the Tape Repro balanced output wich pin is "hot"?

I suspect from your answer it's 2.
